I do like bananas, and in the wintertime here it's one of the few fresh fruits I can get that is convenient enough to pack around with me. And now I have to think long and hard about whether I want to get any more. It makes me think of my students, getting upset with me when I provide them with evidence that the world isn't as happy and safe and wonderful a place as they'd been led to believe. And I have to say, "Don't be upset with me. I didn't make this situation happen. All I did was make you aware of it. Now that you know about it, you have to decide whether you want to do something or not. " Not knowing is so much more comfortable than knowing. You’re right, that is depressing.
